The Creative Process - 4 Questions To Ask

Every time we meet with a client to discuss a potential project, we ask 4 important questions.
We do this for a number of reasons - not only because time is a precious resource that needs to be spent wisely (both for us and the client), but because every creative endeavor needs a clear understanding of the company's identity and what their end goals are.
At the end of the day, results speak louder than art. It's the way of the corporate world, and while both art and results are important, our craft truly shows it's worth when we successfully merge both together.
Here are 4 basic fundamental questions we present:
What's your purpose?
Purpose is huge. Is this a commercial for television broadcasting? For web? An advertisement for Facebook? What are you hoping to do with it? Is it to drive numbers, engage with your community, or make an opening statement? Every slice of digital content has a PURPOSE - figure this out before anything else.
2. Whose your target audience?
Who are you trying to reach? Give us data on your target demo. Are we going after young or old? What's the pitch? Are we reaching new customers, or current? Your target audience has a lot to do with the storyboarding and editing process. The stylistic approach can vary depending on who we are trying to reach.
3. What's your message?
Every single video should have a message. If it doesn't, it's probably a waste of time. Some of the most powerful messages don't even use words. Video is a communication device - so use it appropriately. The message doesn't need to be complex - sometimes, the simpler the better.
4. Whats your budget?
Depending on the project and what is required to see it done right, budgets can fluctuate. Sometimes extra crew, resources, and rentals are necessary to see the result you are seeking.
With these questions in the bag, we have a great start for your creative project.
We look forward to hearing your about your ideas in the future!
